EQ: HOW DO GEOGRAPHERS DESCRIBE WHERE THINGS ARE?
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the tools geographers use to share information about the subjects and sub fields of focus.
Students will create maps using the thematic approach of cartography, the students will use the US percentage of adults and children in poverty as the focus of each map.
Mapping Exercise: US Poverty Rates
Step 1: Select a partner to work with.
Step 2: Using the US Poverty Rates you will create a thematic map using four of the five types of thematic maps. (1. Cartogram 2. Choropleth 3. Dot density 4. Graduated Symbol 5. Isoline) Dot Density will not work in this case.
Step 3: Each member of your group will complete two maps, using the two rates. Include a title, and key for your map.
Step 4: Turn in stapled together before the end of the period.
